OLLIE Rathbone has undergone an injection as Rotherham United looks to speed up the return of the key midfielder from a groin injury.

The 26-year-old has been forced to sit out the last four matches and the Millers, who are locked in a battle for their Championship survival, have sorely missed his all-action presence.

The club had been hoping the former Rochdale man would recover without the need for a medical invention. However, he was still in discomfort late last week after two days of light training and received the jab on Friday.

"We'll assess whether it settles anything down," said manager Matt Taylor whose team face a home test against West Bromwich Albion on Good Friday. "You never want to see your players injected because it's a way of taking pain away from an issue that is clearly there."

The boss had been optimistic that Rathbone would be fit enough to be named in the squad for yesterday's 0-0 draw at Hull City that kept his team in 20th spot with eight games left to play.

"We thought Ollie was close on Thursday but the reaction from his body on Friday wasn't a good one," he said.

Rotherham have a new injury concern after Lee Peltier was forced out of the contest at the MKM Stadium in the second half.

It came as a consequence of the Liverpudlian and teammate Jamie Lindsay defending the Millers' goal when Hull's international attacker, Ozan Tufan, hit the bar.

"Jamie landed on him," Taylor said. "There's nothing worse than when you're face down and someone lands in the middle of your back. I didn't want to bring Lee off.  We need our senior players and leaders available."

Peltier will be assessed by medical staff at the club's Roundwood HQ tomorrow morning.

Attacking midfielder Domingos Quina will miss the Baggies clash while he serves a one-match ban imposed for his professional foul and subsequent straight red card ten minutes after coming on as a 69th-minute substitute against Hull.

His next chance to kick-start his loan spell, which has been restricted by a knee problem to two sub outings, will come on Easter Monday at Norwich City.

Meanwhile, Taylor praised the contribution of Cohen Bramall who returned to the starting 11 for yesterday's stalemate after spending several weeks on the bench.

The flying left-back dealt with the threat of Tigers dangerman Malcolm Ebiowei and the manager said: "We have got no-one better in defensive one-v-one situations."
