OLLIE Rathbone is facing a Friday D-Day as Rotherham United assess whether their key midfielder is ready to rejoin their Championship survival mission.

The 26-year-old has been a stand-out performer since the turn of the year as the Millers have stayed away from the drop zone but has missed the last three matches because of a groin issue.

Rotherham return to action after the fortnight-long international break at Hull City on Saturday and his availability for that clash hinges on the verdict of the club's medical staff.

"Ollie's done a little bit of work this week," said manager Matt Taylor this afternoon. "Where that's put him remains to be seen. He'll be in with the physios first thing in the morning to see if he's going to train tomorrow."

January signing Domingos Quina, who has made only one substitute appearance since his loan switch from Watford, could be in the squad for the trip to the Tigers. The attacking midfielder has returned to full training following a knee injury.

"He looks energetic and ready to play," Taylor said. "He's trained this week with no real ill effects. He's come back into contention."

This weekend's contest pits 20th-placed Rotherham against opponents who are in 15th spot and Taylor is anticipating a tough test.

"Hull are a good footballing team and move the ball really well," he said. "They've got players of a certain pedigree, players of vast experience. They're a strong squad with good choices behind the starting group, hence why they've become a midtable team after being towards the bottom for the first quarter of the season."
