Stage set for Euro U17s final
The Dutch put England out on penalties in their semi-final at Chesterfield on Thursday evening after a goalless draw. Netherlands had six successful attempts before Arsenal's Folarin Balogun saw his kick saved by Joey Koorevaar.
Italy overcame Belgium 2-1 in the other semi at the NYS on Thursday afternoon. The Azzurri took the lead on 30 minutes through Emmanuel Gyabuaa before Yorbe Vertessen equalised in the second half.
A great finish from Edoardo Vergani on 71 minutes restored Italy’s lead and they held on.
The Italians will have a slight advantage going into the final, the match being their third in succession at the New York Stadium. They beat Sweden 2-1 there in the quarter-finals last Sunday.
Making their NYS debut in the tournament, the Netherlands will be looking to become Euro U17s champions for the third time.
