Six-week blow for Jamie Lindsay and Rotherham United, plus a rival boss has praise for the Millers

JAMIE Lindsay is out of action for Rotherham United until the middle of November.

A scan has shown the midfielder has suffered a ‘significant’ hamstring injury that will rule him out of the Millers' promotion push for six weeks.

The Scot, who had to limp out of last Tuesday's win over AFC Wimbledon, was a spectator as Rotherham triumphed 2-0 at Cheltenham Town yesterday to move up to fourth in League One.

"It's a bad result from the scan," manager Paul Warne said. "He made an innocuous landing and the force through his leg made his hammy tear quite significantly.

"He travelled down this weekend because he didn't want to miss out. He trained on the morning of the game in the pool at the hotel and did gym work. He doesn't want to not be involved."

Because of the international break and an FA Cup tie in early November, Lindsay may miss only five league matches.

He is a key man for the Millers who have one of the strongest midfield departments in the division and will cover his absence with a combination of Ollie Rathbone, Dan Barlaser, Ben Wiles and Hakeem Odoffin.

The 25-year-old suffered a hamstring tear last season and managed to come back, ahead of schedule, in less than eight weeks.

Warne is tipping a similar outcome this time for a natural athlete who detests being on the sidelines.

"He didn't take it well at first although when I saw him on Friday he seemed a bit better," the boss said. "Life is too short to be unhappy for too long.

"He doesn't take injury well and he wants to play every minute. He's a competitor.

"Knowing Jamie and the man he is, if the physio says six to eight weeks it will definitely be six not eight. I look forward to seeing him back."

Rotherham dominated after the break at the Jonny-Rocks Stadium and sealed their triumph with second-half goals from Will Grigg and Rarmani Edmonds-Green.

Already 1-0 ahead, they made the game safe by bringing on flying wing-backs Chiedozie Ogbene and Mickel Millers on 67 minutes.

"I've no complaints," said Cheltenham manager Michael Duff. "Once they made their subs we never looked like getting back into the match. I was happy with the first hour.

"They brought on unbelievably attacking wing-backs, which pinned us back, and they killed the game off well.

"Wycombe Wanderers did exactly the same here, but that's two teams who were in the Championship last year, so it's probably not an accident that they are a little bit more streetwise and savvy while we are a little bit wet behind the ears at this level.

"Rotherham weren't getting in with one ball. We were scrapping and fighting, playing against a good team.

"We didn't play as much as we wanted to. Sometimes you have to give the opposition a bit of credit for that."
