ROTHERHAM United manager Matt Taylor pulled no punches as he delivered a damning verdict on his side's performance in the 4-2 Championship defeat at the hands of Hull City.

The scores were level at 1-1 at the interval at AESSEAL New York Stadium this afternoon before the Tigers dismantled the home side in the second half.

Taylor, who revealed that first-team coach Jonathan Hill will join the club from Exeter City on Monday, wasn't happy with any part of his side's display from the first whistle onwards.

“It was a tough day. We were second best from start to finish," he said.

Hull broke through at will, even when we changed to a back four. We were chasing a solution but we never found it. None of the subs made a positive impact in the game.

“I am disappointed with the goals. We were beaten all over the pitch. We were poor as a team defensively.”

Rotherham, in 11th spot, started the match eight places in front of the Tigers but were off the pace after Tuesday's win at Stoke City even though the visitors had had 24 hours' less recovery having played a day later at Blackpool.

“We looked a little bit leggy, which is a surprise," Taylor said.

Hull caretaker boss Andy reckoned his team had ‘earned the right’ to attack by stifling the Millers in the first half.

He said: "We had to calm the lads down at half-time and say they had done some really good stuff. The second-half performance was top-drawer.

"Rotherham is a really difficult place to come to. I thought we grew into the game and we were brave in the second half. Some of our football was a joy to watch.

“We dealt with their aggression and physicality to build ourselves into the game."
