Former Millers right-back and Republic defender Stephen Kelly, working on radio commentary, said: "Ogbene has been exceptional. He really has.

"What a shift he's put in to try and cover against Mbappe and then he's probably the Republic's biggest threat in forward areas."

Ogbene got the winner in last week's 3-2 win over Latvia, scoring only 60 seconds after going on as a sub.

Speaking after last night's game, he said: "I've always said I want to go to the next level.

"Sometimes you don't play well and you start doubting yourself but when I can put performances in like this, it gives me the belief that maybe I can be effective at the next level and that's my dream and so it keeps my dream alive."

Ogbene will be back with the Millers in time for Saturday's Championship test away to Hull City.
