The Millers have paid an undisclosed fee for the 6ft 4in former Rangers man who celebrates his 25th birthday next week.

It's the first piece of transfer-window business done by manager Paul Warne who is also hoping to add a striker and a winger to his squad.

Crooks came through the Huddersfield Town youth ranks before making his breakthrough at Accrington, spending a year at Rangers and then moving to Northampton in the summer of 2017.

He made more than 50 appearances for the Cobblers, netting 10 times, although he missed both matches against Rotherham as Warne's side won promotion from League One last season.

His 23 outings this term have brought six goals, including a hat-trick at Macclesfield Town in October.

The 24-year-old, who can also play in defence, passed a medical earlier today.

The clubs reached an agreement after spending a week in negotiations.
