The shot-stopper, who left the Millers in the summer after two and a half years with the club, last month tragically lost wife Laura to cancer.

His former teammates asked for this week's Championship match with Bristol City to be dedicated to the couple.

The squad will wear special T-shirts when they warm up before kick-off at AESSEAL New York Stadium and there will be a minute's applause in the 31st minute, 31 being the number Josh wore before his departure to Derby County.

Laura fought a courageous battle against the disease before passing away at the age of 27. She and Josh were long-term partners and they married three months before her death.

The Millers said in a statement posted on their website this morning: "Josh became a highly-popular figure in our close-knit dressing room, forming friendships with players past and present.

"Those relationships meant that a number of our players became close with Laura, learning of her truly inspirational outlook on life in the most difficult of circumstances.

"A selection of those same players were in attendance on the happiest day of the couple’s lives when they were married this summer.

"It goes without saying that the thoughts of everyone here at Rotherham United remain with Josh and everyone connected with him and Laura at this heartbreaking time."

Volunteers for the club's community trust, RUCT, will be at New York collecting donations in aid of the Royal Marsden Cancer Charity that helped Laura with her treatment.
