Rotherham United report back for duty as Ryan Williams moves on

ROTHERHAM United do not anticipate any further departures from the club in the wake of Ryan Williams' exit, for now at least.

The Aussie winger has joined Portsmouth, returning to the club where he started his career in England eight years ago, after rejecting a new deal with the Millers.

The 25-year-old, recently capped by Australia, will sign for Pompey when his current contract expires on July 1.

Rotherham's first team squad report back for pre-season training today but assistant manager Richie Barker says it could take a little longer for players to decide their futures.

The exception to that rule is expected to be Will Vaulks, strongly tipped to join Cardiff City.

"We have had a couple of conversations about players maybe going out on loan," he told the Advertiser.

"At the moment I can't see anyone going anywhere in the next few days. Everyone will report back and they will train over the weekend and next week before we go to Germany the following week.

"If there is the odd disgrunted one who doesn't think they can find a way into the team then they might come and knock on the door.

"In the middle of the next week there may be a realisation that they might not get a lot of game time and realise they need to move on."

Kenny Jackett, Portsmouth's manager and former Rotherham boss, says the recruitment of Williams is good business.

"He's an attacking winger," he told the club's website. "Ryan's just made his debut for Australia but has been in England for many years now and established himself."

Williams made 88 appearances in his two seasons with the Millers, scoring five goals.

The confirmation of his departure comes in the same week Rotherham paid a club record fee of £500,000 for Plymouth striker Freddie Ladapo.
