FORMER loan favourite Rarmani Edmonds-Green has joined Rotherham United's Championship rivals, Wigan Athletic, in a season-long deadline-day deal.

The centre-half made a huge impact on the pitch and with supporters last term as he helped the Millers win promotion from League One.

Manager Paul Warne would have taken him back earlier in the transfer window but had already signed his quota of defenders by the time parent club Huddersfield Town decided the defender could temporarily move out again.

Edmonds-Green scored one of the goals on the final day of the 2021/22 campaign at Gillingham when Rotherham sealed their place in the second tier with a 2-0 triumph.

The 23-year-old, affectionatey nicknamed REG by fans, will receive a warm welcome when he comes to AESSEAL New York Stadium with the Latics at the start of next month.

Rotherham haven't added to their ten new arrivals in the closing stages of the window and have kept hold of all of their men despite interest in Ben Wiles, Dan Barlaser and Chiedozie Ogbene.

Wigan striker Stephen Humphrys, about whom the Millers made enquiries in August, has moved to Scottish club Hearts on loan.

Rotherham offered Rochdale a substantial fee for the player last summer before he chose to go to the DW Stadium.
