CENTRE-HALF Jamie McCart this evening left Rotherham United and dropped down a division to join South Yorkshire neighbours on a season-long loan.

The Scottish defender isn't part of manager Matt Taylor's plans in the Championship and his only action in the second tier this term came as a late substitute at Stoke City on opening day.

His switch to the League One Reds will free up wages for Rotherham to put to use in their bid to add to their 12 signings this summer before tomorrow night's close of the transfer window.

The 26-year-old heads to Oakwell with praise from Taylor ringing in his ears.

"I can't fault Jamie as a professional," the Millers boss said. "He has probably the best attitude of any player at the club. There are just other people in front of him here in his position."

McCart moved to South Yorkshire from St Johnstone before last season but has made only 13 appearances since then.
