ROTHERHAM United centre-half Tyler Blackett will undergo surgery this week, crushing the club's hopes that he would avoid the need for an operation.

The 29-year-old suffered a severe hamstring tear against Bristol City earlier this month and saw a specialist last Wednesday who decided the defender would have to go under the knife.

The procedure is set to take place this Wednesday and Blackett is facing several months on the sidelines.

He will go through his rehabilitation with fellow centre-back Cameron Humphreys who had an operation on a similar issue around three weeks ago.

It emerged today that another Millers player has gone under the knife, with winger Shane Ferguson last Friday having a third round of surgery on the hernia problems that have affected him since the turn of 2023 and have stopped him playing since the end of last season.

"The hope, obviously, it that it will improve his present situation," manager Matt Taylor said. "It's the third op in the last five or six months and we hope he comes through it in a better position than he is in right now."
