The Millers dominated the second half but the visitors had come to spoil and, helped by a referee who let them get away with a host of delaying tactics, they managed the 0-0 draw they'd come for.

The clash between fifth-placed Rotherham and the Chairboys, who arrived in South Yorkshire in second spot, was marred by Wanderers' time-wasting and injury-feigning tactics.

The Millers stretched their unbeaten run to eight matches and are four points off the top two.

A combustible start saw 'handbags' from both sides before the visitors had the game's first attempt on goal, Ryan Tafazolli heading a fourth-minute corner wide.

There were few threats from either side in the opening stages as the visitors looked to slow down proceedings whenever they could and stop the Millers building any momentum.

A long delay when Joe Mattock went down and required treatment stalled the action even further.

The injury-plagued Rotherham man, returning after an achilles problem, tried to continue but was in trouble and had to be replaced by Chieodozie Ogbene with less than half an hour on the clock.

It took 33 minutes for the first effort on target to arrive, Michael Smith directing a header lacking power straight at Chairboys goalkeeper David Stockdale from Rarmani Edmonds-Green's cross.

As half-time approached, the goal opened up for Ogbene as he cut inside but he could do no better than drag a weak shot wide while at the other end, in time added on, Tafazolli headed over at the back post from a free-kick.

Ref Robert Madley was having a poor match, failing to clamp down on Wycombe's niggly, shirt-pulling, disrupting approach designed to suck any tempo out of the encounter.

Rotherham had been forced into two changes through injury, goalkeeper Viktor Johansson fit enough only for the bench after a back spasm and centre-half Michael Ihiekwe missing out with a groin issue.

Keeper Josh Vickers came in for his first Millers league start while Mattock was picked on the left of a three-man rearguard.

Manager Paul Warne opted for Shane Ferguson as left wing-back in preference to Mickel Miller who had started the 4-1 win home win over Portsmouth three days earlier.

Four minutes after the break, Vickers was called into serious action for the first time, producing a flying save to keep out Joe Jacobson's curling 20-yard free-kick.

Will Grigg saw a low shot deflected for a corner as the home side pushed forward towards the North Stand in the 62nd minute and then Ogbene's cross almost caught out Stockdale who back-pedaled and managed to push it away.

Soon after, as the Millers enjoyed their best spell of pressure, Ladapo's shot was deflected for a corner.

Warne's men were dominating now and a succession of Wycombe players went down with injuries only to be able to continue when the sting had been taken out of the game.

To their credit, Wanderers were defending well, but their antics killed the match as a spectacle.

Ollie Rathbone's shot on the turn was too tame to bother Stockdale in the 85th minute as time ran out on Rotherham.

Exasperation for them. Mission accomplished for Wycombe.
