Not pretty but the unbeaten run goes on ... on-the-whistle report: Blackpool 0 Rotherham United 0

ROTHERHAM United made it four matches without defeat as they maintained the four-point gap between them and the Championship drop zone at Blackpool this afternoon.

After facing top-three opposition for three matches in a row, the Millers took on 23rd-placed opposition and were made to work hard for a share of the spoils.

The goalless draw kept them in 20th spot and ended a run of five straight wins against the Seasiders.

Defences were on top throughout the contest and there were few clear-cut opportunities.

With only Wigan Athletic of the teams below them gaining ground, Rotherham will view it as a decent result.

The game took a while to settle and neither side really threatened a breakthrough.

The only time either goalkeeper was called into action in the opening quarter of an hour was when Viktor Johansson had the easiest of tasks to collect a tame low shot from Sonny Carey who had been played in by Josh Bowler's clever pass.

January signing Conor Coventry, a mix of craft and industry, was showing up well in midfield for the Millers who were defending well but had yet to offer much in attack.

Rotherham has sold out their allocation of 1,894 tickets and the atmosphere was much livelier than proceedings on the pitch.

Cohen Bramall ran clear down the left and fired in a cross that Chris Maxwell palmed away and Coventry's effort was too high when he tried his luck from distance.

There was no lack of application from two willing sides but quality was at a premium in a hard-fought contest.

A Grant Hall header from a free-kick was as off target as the player was off balance when his head made contact with the ball at a free-kick, which typified a scrappy, scruffy first half.

Just before the break, Chiedozie Ogbene threatened on the right and Ollie Rathbone's shot from the winger's defected cross - with strident Millers appeals for handball and a penalty going unheeded - was blocked.

Rotherham had made one change to the side that had drawn 0-0 in the South Yorkshire derby with Sheffield United a week earlier.

Leo Hjelde was missing through injury so Bramall stepped in at left-back.

Centre-half Bailey Wright, who had been concussed seconds after coming on for his debut against the Blades, was cleared for bench duty and fellow new boy Domingos Quina made the squad for the first time.

Bramall broke clear again but could only direct a low cross into the keeper's hands as the second half carried on in the same vein as the first.

The same player made a much better job of a 60th-minute free-kick, coming within a whisker of giving the visitors the lead as he fired just wide.

Charlie Patino shot straight into Johansson's midriff and Hakeem Odoffin headed too close to Maxwell as the battle continued with neither team able to establish a degree of superiority.

Bramall had supplied the Odoffin chance and was using his pace to good effect in attack and defence.

Rathbone was denied by a fine Maxwell stop as one of the keepers was forced into serious action for the first time on 75 minutes.

In time added on, Johansson saved from Millers old boy Jerry Yates and Ogbene hit the bar after a lightning breakaway led by the irrepressible Rathbone.

Not pretty but satisfactory. A point is a point.
