Jonathan Hill has left after seven months at AESSEAL New York Stadium.

A NEW coach is poised to be in place for Rotherham United for the start of the pre-season training following the departure of Jonathan Hill.

Boss Matt Taylor has moved swiftly to fill the gap created by the backroom reshuffle he engineered last month once the Millers had secured their Championship safety.

Hill, aged 52, has left his role just seven months after following the manager from Exeter City to AESSEAL New York Stadium.

“In terms of our progression we’re in need of a slightly different set of eyes,” Taylor said. “Another coach has become available. He’s someone I wanted to bring in when I first came to the club in October but it couldn’t be done at the time.

“He will be a huge asset to us. He will be demanding but the players will love working with him. He will push them in terms of getting the most out of them and taking them to new levels.”

The Advertiser understands the new man has experience at Premier League level. Rotherham’s first-team squad are set to meet him for the first time when they return from their break on Monday, June 26.

Taylor added: “Football is an incredibly quick sort of lifestyle. The intensity at which we work can sometimes take its toll. That’s not just related to Jon, it’s the whole staffing infrastructure.

“Jon is probably suited more to a director of football role. He’s great in terms of strategy. He knows his own strengths. It was very much a mutual agreement in terms of what’s best for himself and the club.”
