The experienced midfielder, who had been without a club since leaving Stoke City in May, last Friday became the Millers' 14th recruit of the summer and made his debut in the following day's 2-0 Championship loss at Huddersfield Town.

The 32-year-old has played in the Premier League for Hull City and Swansea City and is looking to put two injury-affected seasons with the Potters behind him.

“It's important I get back playing regularly and affecting things on the pitch, then we can take things from there,” he said. “If it's a successful year for me maybe I can extend that.”

Clucas can play in the centre of the park or out wide and says he is relishing the challenge of trying to help the Millers establish themselves in the second tier.

“I like to think I bring goals and assists and the versatility of being able to play in a lot of positions,” he said.

Manager Matt Taylor said: "We have to understand Sam hasn't done a pre-season. We've got to build up his match minutes.”
