Millers land former Chesterfield stopper

ROTHERHAM United made it two signings in a day by signing former Chesterfield and Leeds United goalkeeper Alex Cairns in a deal until the end of the season.

Cairns joins the Millers following his release by the Spireites yesterday and after not making an appearance for the League One club since he signed for them in the summer.

Boss Neil Redfearn has worked with the 23-year-old stopper before when both were at Leeds, where Cairns made one appearance.

He has also had previous loan spells with Barrow and Stalybridge Celtic and will add to the club’s goalkeeping ranks that currently include Lee Camp and Adam Collin.

Cairns joins the Millers after Tunisian international Aymen Belaid signed earlier in the day.
