ROTHERHAM United's away woes transferred themselves to AESSEAL New York Stadium this evening as the Millers slipped to an agonising last-gasp defeat at the hands of Bristol City.

Matt Taylor's men have generally been strong at home this season while they've struggled on their travels but they succumbed to two strikes from substitute Tommy Conway, the second of which came deep into added time.

After Rotherham had fallen behind, Tyler Blackett's first goal for the club gave them late hope and they were pushing for a winner when disaster struck.

There were a few boos from home followers following a result that keeps their team in 23rd spot with only one victory to their name.

The Millers started the better of the two sides and raided down both flanks but were unable to create any clear-cut chances. A free-kick fired over by Cohen Bramall and a shot that suffered a similar fate from Andre Green were all they had to show for their efforts in the opening quarter of an hour.

On 23 minutes, they could and maybe should have gone ahead. Bramall crossed deep from the left, Jordan Hugill headed back across goal and Andre Green didn't impose himself enough as he lurked close in and tried to turn the ball over the line.

Applause rang out in the 31st minute as a mark of respect for former Millers goalkeeper Josh Vickers, who used to wear the number-31 jersey, following the tragic cancer death of his wife, Laura.

Home players had also worn special T-shirts in his honour as they warmed up before kick-off on a mild October evening.

The move over the match so far saw good skill from Green send Bramall flying down the left in the 38th minute and send in a dangerous cross. Fred Onyedinma rose well and might have kept his header underneath the ball had he been a couple of inches taller.

Rotherham had been given a huge boost by the return of key man Cafu who was sorely missed in the four matches he'd been forced to sit out with a hamstring niggle.

With the Millers short of fit centre-halves, experienced right-back Lee Peltier started in the heart of the defence.

There were welcome signs that the long injury list is finally starting to ease a little with the inclusion on the bench of central defender Grant Hall, out since pre-season with hamstring trouble.

The second half continued in the same vein as the first and there had been no real sights of goal for either side by the time Hall entered proceedings in the 62nd minute.

The home fans roused themselves in a bid to inspire their team who remained on the front foot but were unable to break down the visitors.

A tame 68th-minute shot from the Robins' Joe Williams straight at Viktor Johansson became the contest's first effort on target.

Sadly for the Millers, the second one saw them fall behind as Conway lashed a fine shot into the far corner within a matter of seconds of coming on to the pitch.

Rotherham rallied and Blackett fired in a low 86th-minute shot to level proceedings.

All the action was in the Bristol half but suddenly Conway was touching home Andy King's cross at the other end.

This wasn't the way manager Taylor had hoped to mark the first anniversary of his time in charge.
