Millers help raise awareness of Rotherham’s young homeless

ROTHERHAM United has teamed up with charity SAFE@LAST to raise awareness of homelessness among teenagers in the town.

Youngsters from the Millers’ Community Sports Trust’s National Citizens Service project slept rough at the club’s New York Stadium as part of its Big Sleep Out project.

A total of 438 youngsters will take part in the NCS scheme at the club throughout the summer holidays and 122 of them began with a rough night’s sleep on Thursday, July 21.

Carole Foster, the trust’s NCS project manager, said: “We are working in conjunction with SAFE@LAST to run the event for two reasons.

“Firstly, all participants and staff will be sponsored to raise funds for the charity and secondly, we hope to raise awareness of homelessness by allowing the youngsters to experience first-hand what it likes to sleep in difficult surroundings.

“We are really proud of this project and feel that it is very much needed since the demise of the Parkgate Big Sleep Out.”
