Millers fans jailed

Four men and a boy were involved in violence near New York Stadium on November 9 last year, following a 3-0 win against Bradford City.

They attacked away fans in a supermarket carpark as they headed towards Rotherham train station.

The group then followed one man walking with his six-year-old son before assaulting him and wounding his head.

Another City supporter was also attacked, suffering minor injuries.

The five were sentenced at Sheffield Crown Court on Tuesday, receiving prison terms of between eight and 30 months.

Akeem Curran (22), of Cherry Brook, Eastwood, received 20 months after admitting two charges of actual bodily harm and one of affray.

Kieran Farrow (21), of Byrley Road, Kimberworth Park, received ten months after pleading guilty to ABH and affray.

Dominic Skidmore (20), of Ten Acre Road, was sentenced to 16 months after admitting assault and affray.

Ashley Thompson (18), of Avon Mount in Masbrough, pleaded guilty to two charges of assault and one of affray, receiving eight months.

A 15-year-old boy from Rotherham, who cannot be named for legal reasons, admitted two charges of assault and one of affray. He was sentenced to eight months.

Insp Barry Bentley said officers had been watching the offenders carefully since the attacks, especially at football matches.

He added: “Following this incident, Rotherham police have implemented a new approach to managing football supporters who may cause disorder during matches.

“Pro-active visits have made a considerable difference and reduced disorder at games, so ensuring Rotherham and the New York Stadium are safer places to work and visit.”
