Millers announce retained list

WEMBLEY hero Adam Collin is among 11 members of Rotherham United's first-team squad who will not be offered new contracts at the club.

The 31-year-old spent the majority of the 2015/16 season on loan at Scottish Premiership side Aberdeen.

But he will be remembered by Millers fans for his penalty shootout heroics in the victory over Leyton Orient in 2014 when they secured promotion to the Championship.

The club has released its retained list despite no first-team manager being in place, after Neil Warnock said he would be leaving the club earlier this week.

The Advertiser understands former manager Warnock had a big say in who the club should look to to offload.

Defenders Lewis Buxton, Danny Collins and Frazer Richardson, midfielders Paul Green and Emmanuel Ledesma, striker Luciano Becchio and mid-season signings Lloyd Doyley, Jerome Thomas, Alex Cairns and Paddy Kenny will also all be released by the club at the end of their contracts and are now free to discuss terms with other teams.

The clubs other out of contract players, Matt Derbyshire, Stephen Kelly, Richard Wood, Leon Best and Kirk Broadfoot have been offered new deals.

Chief operating officer Paul Douglas said: "Conversations have been initiated with the five players, and those conversations are set to continue.

“Some of those conversations may well be concluded before the appointment of a new first-team manager, some of the discussions may go on for longer."
