Matt Taylor to Rotherham United ... talks with Exeter City are friendly but a complication means they're taking a while

DRAWN-OUT negotiations that should end with Matt Taylor taking the Rotherham United hot-seat are "entirely amicable" say the club he is on the brink of leaving.

Talks are still taking place between the Millers and Exeter City and both parties hope the situation will be resolved sooner rather than later.

Taylor has been offered the job and wants the role and the delay centres around 'unresolved legalities'.

Nick Hawker, chair of Exeter City Supporters’ Trust, said in a statement today: “Following the approach made to us from Rotherham United last week, we agreed for Matt to speak to them. He was subsequently offered the position.

“From this point both club’s representatives began discussions and negotiations are ongoing. It is important to note that these negotiations are entirely amicable, although they are protracted.

"It is for this reason that we have been unable to make an official announcement.”

Taylor won't be in the Exeter dugout for tonight's Papa Johns Trophy clash with Southampton Under-21s.

In a statement of their own, the Millers said: "Rotherham United can inform supporters that conversations with Matt Taylor, his representatives and Exeter City remain ongoing.

"Whilst the complexity of these negotiations have resulted in them becoming protracted, the club will ensure that it keeps supporters updated on the outcome when it is appropriate to do so.

"We would also like to take this opportunity to thank Exeter City for their assistance throughout this process so far."

Rotherham are in Championship action at home to Millwall tomorrow evening.
