MATCHDAY CENTRE: Stubbs' patience running thin

ALAN Stubbs is at the end of his tether with his error-ridden Rotherham United side and ready to ring the changes.

The Millers boss denounced the individual and collective mistakes that he believes gifted Blackburn Rovers a 4-2 win at Ewood Park on Saturday.

And after four successive away defeats, a run which has seen just two goals scored and 14 conceded, he is dismayed that lessons are not being learned.

"I've said it before, we're beating ourselves by individual and collective mistakes," he said.

"You have to have a bit about you to not keep making mistakes week in and week out and to be honest I'm sick of saying the same thing.

"We've got what we've got within the dressing room but individually and as a team we need to do better.

"Three out of the four goals I can't defend, they were poor goals to give away. As I've said, we beat ourselves, whether it was the wrong position, lapses in concentration, not staying with runners.

"My patience was already running thin and now it's running even thinner. These players get opportunities and they can have no complaints when they're left out of the team."

Stubbs was particularly unhappy with the way Rotherham surrendered their early lead and then let conceded a third goal from the first move of the second half.

"We got ourselves 1-0 up and before you know it you're 2-1 down and it's through players not doing what they're supposed to do," he said.

"That's the frustrating thing about it because when we do get the ball in and around the box we've got people who can hurt teams.

"You're 2-1 down at half time and you say the things you say and before you know it you are 3-1 down just by people not getting close. It was all too easy for the boy (Ben Marshall) to come in off the side and take a shot at the goal."

The defeat saw Rotherham slip back to 21st place in the Championship, just a point above the safety line.

Added Stubbs: "Football is all about responding and it will make this job all the more rewarding to get the players doing what they should be doing, because it is going to take a lot of work."
