Wide men and strikers are priority targets and among the players with whom the club are in talks is a frontman who has been told by his present second-tier team that he can leave.

Rotherham have been buoyed by their home demolition of high-flying Blackburn Rovers and yesterday's impressive draw at third-placed Watford, results which have lifted them five points clear of the drop zone.

"We are working towards players coming into the building," Taylor said. "Hopefully they will have watched the last couple of games and can see what we are trying to do, where we are trying to get to, and will say: 'Yeah, I want to be part of that.'"

When asked if there would be signings before next weekend, he replied: "I hope so. Touch wood."

The window closes at 11pm week on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, centre-forward Conor Washington missed the Hornets clash so he could be with his wife who is expecting the couple's second child.

"He spoke to me on Thursday and he didn't feel comfortable coming to the game," said Taylor after Shane Ferguson's first-half strike had earned Rotherham a point in Hertfordshire.

"His partner was due this week. I've heard nothing today and no baby had arrived yesterday.

"Family comes first in all situations, so we understand his absence."

The Millers don't play again until February 4, when derby rivals Sheffield United are the visitors to AESSEAL New York Stadium, as next Saturday's home clash with Sunderland has been rearranged for February 21 because of the Black Cats' FA Cup commitments.
