ROTHERHAM United held talks with loan duo Conor Coventry and Tariqe Fosu over possible returns to AESSEAL New York Stadium, manager Matt Taylor has revealed.

The pair played their part in last term's Championship survival after arriving in South Yorkshire in January.

Discussions took place at the end of the campaign before the Millers looked elsewhere for reinforcements this summer.

“There was a chance they would come back,” Taylor said. “You always look at what's in your building first, what you've already worked with. They both did well for us last season.

“But we've gone for a slightly different profile of player and we're comfortable with where we're at.”

Midfielder Coventry, aged 23, has a year left on his contract at West Ham United while 27-year-old winger Fosu has become a free agent following his release by Brentford.

Rotherham have boosted their options in the centre of the park with the signing of Cafu and are in the process of acquiring a work permit to allow another midfield man, Christ Tiehi to join them from Czech Republic side Slovan Liberec.

They have also recently brought in Fred Onyedinma on the wing, Dexter Lembikisa at right-back and given a deal to striker Andre Green who can also play out wide.

Meanwhile, the Millers have been drawn away to Stoke City in the second round of the Carabao Cup, with the tie to be played in the week beginning August 28.

It'sa quick return to the bet365 Stadiuim for Taylor's men who lost there on last Saturday's opening day.
