MANAGER Matt Taylor is content to play a waiting game after Rotherham United’s offer of new deals to several of this season’s first-team squad.

The boss described negotiations as “continued dialogue” but isn’t expecting any movement until closer to the June 26 start of pre-season training.

“You have to remember the players are here, there and everywhere at the moment,” he said. “Some are on holiday spending time with their loved ones, some have been on stag ‘do’s.”

Midfielders Ollie Rathbone and Ben Wiles, attacker Chiedozie Ogbene, defenders Lee Peltier, Sean Morrison and Tyler Blackett and goalkeeper Josh Vickers are among those who have had fresh terms put in front of them.

With the exception of Rathbone and Wiles, they are all free agents and Taylor accepts they will also be talking to other teams.

“We’re working hard on all the players we’ve offered contracts to, but we understand their need to assess their options fully,” he said. “There will be suitors elsewhere. Finances always play a part.”

Vickers is believed to have already decided his future lies away from New York.
