The 26-year-old has signed a new contract that keeps him at AESSEAL New York Stadium for the next two years.

The development is a boost to the promoted Millers as they bid to consolidate their place at a higher level as the former Celtic youngster was arguably their best performer in the second tier two seasons ago.

Rotherham chose not to activate a 12-month option to extend Lindsay's present terms, which were due to expire at the end of this month, preferring instead to offer him a longer-term stay.

The Scot, who moved from Ross County for a fee close to £200,000 in 2019, has made 100 appearances in his three years with the club.

Other clubs, including League One Portsmouth, had shown interest in him.
