Jamal Blackman or Viktor Johansson in the net? Rotherham United boss Paul Warne is about to decide

Chelsea loanee Jamal Blackman began the season as first-choice shot-stopper, lost his place to young Swede Viktor Johansson and then regained it for last Saturday's FA Cup clash at Everton.

Manager Paul Warne says he will reach a verdict ahead of this weekend's league trip to Derby County where a win could take the Millers out of the drop zone.

"I will look at next week with a clean pair of eyes and make a judgement," he said.

"I don't like changing my goalkeepers but everybody is up for scrutiny when we are second bottom of the league."

Warne opted for 27-year-old Blackman for the cup tie against Premier League opposition after Johansson, 22, had started the previous three second-tier matches.

"I just gave Jamal an opportunity to prove why he should be number one," said the boss after a 2-1 defeat at Goodison Park. "I thought he played well, to be fair. I haven't seen the goals back but his overall game was good.

"At the start of the season, Jamal was my number one. I told Viktor that, I admit that.

"I didn't think Jamal's performances were as good as I wanted or he wanted. He had a bit of an injury. Viktor came in and did really well.

"I had seen Jamal in training, thought he had done well and thought that with a big game like his experience might just be a better option."

Meanwhile, Freddie Ladapo should return to training today after the striker missed out against Everton because of a persistent groin niggle.

Rotherham wanted to make sure he was available for their league battle rather than risk exacerbating his problem in a one-off knockout fixture.

"It is not really serious," Warne said, "We had a chance for him to take the rest because it was becoming more and more frustrating for him. There is no massive drama.

"He has done loads of work with the physios. He had an injection and had a couple of days off and he should be able to come back into training on Monday."
