The centre-half made his comeback earlier this month after being sidelined since the final match of pre-season, in July, by hamstring problems.

However, he made only two Championship appearances before being ruled out again, this time by a hip complaint, and is almost certain to miss tonight's home clash with Coventry City.

Speaking on Monday, manager Matt Taylor said: "He’s had a bit of a setback and we’ve given him a jab so hopefully that’ll get his injury moving in the right direction.

"It doesn’t look like he is going to be available on Wednesday, but I’m not going to rule him fully out yet."

Hall, aged 32, was an impressive performer during a season-long loan spell last term, although various issues restricted him to 21 outings.

The Millers gave him a one-year deal when he left Middlesbrough in the summer

This evening’s encounter will be the first time goalkeeper Viktor Johansson has played since he was caught up in the turmoil of the terrorist shootings in Belgium during the international break.

Two Sweden fans were killed close to the stadium in Brussels where Johansson, who was being watched by his girlfriend, was part of the national squad playing a Euro 2024 qualifer.

The match on Monday October 16 was abandoned at half-time and the keeper had to fly back to his homeland without his belongings before finally returning to England three days later.

Taylor is backing the 25-year-old to overcome a traumatic time and be at his best against the Sky Blues.

"The experience he went through was tough," the boss said. "Hopefully he’s been able to put what he went through behind him."

Centre-half Sean Morrison and midfielder Hakeem Odoffin are expected to be in the matchday 20 for injury-hit Rotherham after overcoming calf and hamstring trouble respectively.
