ROTHERHAM United fielded a weakened side as they slipped to a 3-1 defeat against League One opposition in a private friendly during the international break.

The Championship Millers headed to promotion contenders Bolton Wanderers on the Friday of the first week of the fortnight-long shutdown without six first-teamers who were away on duty with their countries.

They were also missing several injured players.

“It was an interesting game,” said manager Matt Taylor. “We played a relatively strong Bolton team. Our main group was a combination of people returning from injury and people finding their feet.

“We looked a little bit rusty for an hour then it became disjointed, as friendlies always do, in the last half an hour. We played a different formation and moved a few things around. Physically, the group needed that run-out and were in a better position because of it.”
