Guest and Chrimes fire was "probably" arson - fire service

A BLAZE which gutted gutted historic Guest and Chrimes was “probably deliberate”, fire investigators say — although a full investigation might not begin “for months”.

Firefighters have still not been able to access the former foundry to establish the cause, as the structure remains “unstable” and “at risk of collapse”, a fire service spokeswoman said yesterday.

Six fire appliances attended the blaze at the Don Street end of the building early on Sunday, July 1.

Building owners Rotherham United have commissioned an aerial drone survey of the Grade II-listed brassworks next to New York Stadium, the results of which were due this week.
