GEORGIE Kelly’s injury jinx has struck again, with the striker being sidelined for the third time by a calf problem.

The 26-year-old sat out Tuesday night’s loss against Preston North End after experiencing discomfort the day before in training.

“It’s a recurrence of his problematic calf,” said boss Matt Taylor. “It is a serious issue for him.

“He had a scan. There was fluid on the calf, which shows there’s an issue, but there is no strain or tear.”

Rotherham are keeping their fingers crossed that they have acted quickly enough to make the centre-forward’s absence a short one after previous protracted spells in the treatment room since his January 2022 arrival.

“We hope this time we have nipped it in the bud early enough,” Taylor said.

Kelly hasn’t been ruled out of Saturday’s home clash with Cardiff City, although the potential inclusion of a player who offers cover on the bench for frontman Jordan Hugill leaves his manager with a dilemma.

“Do we risk him and then risk losing him for the rest of the season?” Taylor said.

“We miss his impact because he has given us the chance to ‘offload’ Jordan at times. He has a chance for the weekend as long as that fluid subsides.”
