Eighth summer signing will allow Millers boss to sleep easy

International defender Shaun Cummings joins on a one-year-deal after his Millwall contract expired and boss Warne now has competition for fellow right back Josh Emmanuel, following the sale of Darnell Fisher to Preston earlier in the transfer window,
Warne said: “I can sleep easier knowing if something happens to Josh (Emmanuel) I’ve got a decent back-up.

“I’ve got a dearth of right backs, I’ve only got one, and Josh is still learning the game, so I can’t rely on him to play every game.”
The former Chelsea youngster turned out 23 times for Millwall last term as they secured promotion from League One through the play-offs. He also has three Jamaica caps to his name.

Warne added: “Shaun came up training with us for a couple of days and straight away I liked him, I don’t want to sign people I don’t know and I haven’t met, I’m not going to ruin my group on one excellent players.
“He kindly said he’d come and train and see what we thought of each other, he’s athletic, can get up and down, he’s experienced and played plenty of games in a team that got promoted last year.
“He played at The Den all the time and that’s no easy place to play for a home defender.
“He’s a great kid. I’m happy he’s signed.”

Handed a start as one of four changes to Paul Warne’s starting line-up, the Aussie confessed he would have liked to have got on the ball more in what was a frenetic tie against Lincoln City but was happy to play his part in the 2-1 victory last night.

“We got the win in the end and that was the important thing,” Williams told the Advertiser. “We should have probably made it a little bit easier for ourselves but we were facing a very good League Two side.
“I didn’t get on the ball as much as I would like to. It wasn’t a game where I could show what I was about but there are still plenty more games to come.
“We won and hopefully I can stay in the team for Saturday.”
