ROTHERHAM United striker will learn on Monday whether he will require an operation on his damaged hamstring.

The loanee suffered the injury in the midweek win at AFC Wimbledon and is set to miss two months of the table-topping Millers' League One run-in.

He has a date after the weekend with a specialist who will decide if surgery on the grade-three tear is the best way forward.

"The best-case scenario is eight weeks and it could be worse," said manager Paul Warne whose team are in derby action at Sheffield Wednesday tomorrow.

"They're the cards we've been dealt. He may need an op."

Grigg underwent a scan on Wednesday, the day after the 1-0 triumph over the Dons, and was at Rotherham's Roundwood base yesterday being further assessed by the club's medical team.

"He's limping, which is obviously a bad sign," said Warne. "Sometimes you have a muscle injury where your walking is fine and it's only running at speed that bothers you. It shows the enormity of the injury."

The 30-year-old, who had been showing the best form of his season-long loan before pulling up at Plough Lane, is coping with the setback and plans to travel from his Coventry home to attend the South Yorkshire showdown at Hillsborough.

"He's all right in himself," Warne said. "He's an experienced pro and knows injuries happen. He's disappointed because he's played a big part in our campaign.

"We're now getting to the last stretch where we're going to need our best players, so his absence is a massive blow.

"He's good in the dressing room. He's a calming influence and good around the younger players."

The Millers are likely to replace him Josh Kayode or Freddie Ladapo tomorrow or they could even change their shape from 3-5-2 to 3-5-1-1 and play with a '10' instead of two strikers.
