The winger's last chance to impress came against Mansfield Town yesterday.

MATT Taylor has been canvassing the opinion of his coaches this weekend as the Rotherham United manager decides whether to offer a contract to trialist Sullay Kaikai.

The boss seemed to indicate there was a chance of deal for the left winger who has started friendlies against Middlesbrough and Mansfield Town during his week-long spell with the Championship Millers.

But he also said following yesterday's 4-2 victory over the Stags at the One Call Stadium that a final verdict had yet to be reached.

"We've been pleased with Sullay," the boss said. "We'll make a decision in the next 24/48 hours.

"We'll discuss it as a coaching staff. We'll discuss it with the club in terms of what we can get to."

Trialists can play in only two friendlies so Kaikai won't feature against Sheffield United on Tuesday unless he has earned a permanent contract.

The 27-year-old, who came through the ranks at Crystal Place before going in to forge a career in League One with Blackpool and Wycombe Wanderers, is a free agent after spending the second half of last season in the third tier with MK Dons.

Rotherham don't want to keep him waiting as he has interest from other clubs that he can pursue if he isn't kept on at AESSEAL New York Stadium.

Meanwhile, against Mansfield the Millers were without two first-teamers - striker Jordan Hugill and midfielder Hakeem Odoffin - who had started the pre-season match against Middlesbrough three days earlier.

"Jordan clocked in ill this morning," said Taylor after watching centre-forward Georgie Kelly hit a hat-trick and another trialist, Andre Green, score. "We had a little bit of it in the camp on Thursday with our young goalkeeper, Nat Ford.

"Haks has a slight bit of stiffness and tightness in his quad on the back of the Boro game."

Midfielder Lindsay is nursing a sore achilles but is closing in on a return, as are centre-forward Josh Kayode and winger Shane Ferguson following quad and hernia operations respectively.

Defender Lee Peltier gingerly walked off against the Stags in the second half but his withdrawal was only a precaution.

"He was just cramping up a bit after getting carried away with those marauding runs from right-back!" Taylor said. "He'd missed a bit of training with tightness in his calf."
