The Millers manager gives an update to the Advertiser.

MANAGER Matt Taylor is hoping to wrap up four more new signings for Rotherham United this summer including the long-awaited arrival of midfield man Christ Tiehi.

On top of the French-born Slovan Liberec player, the boss wants to add another midfielder, a centre-half and a striker.

“That's my aim,” he said. “Whether that's realistic or not remains to be seen. That is what I'd like to do, As a minimum, we have to be bringing in another two (as well as Tiehi).”

The Championship Millers have been collaborating with the Home Office for well over a fortnight about a work permit for the former Wigan Athletic loanee and expect his permanent move from the Czech Republic for a significant fee to go through at some stage.

The 25-year-old has been in Rotherham for a while and has watched every match since the pre-season friendly against Middlesbrough last month.

“We've got one here but not here who we all know about,” Taylor said this week in reference to the situation. “It's difficult to comment because obviously he is still contracted elsewhere. We'll keep on pushing the right buttons as much as we can.”

Free-agent veteran centre-forward Billy Sharp, the second tier's all-time top scorer, still hasn't found a club and the offer Rotherham made him weeks ago remains on the table, albeit at a reduced level.

There has been no breakthrough in the last week and the Millers are chasing other attacking targets. "There's nothing on it," Taylor said. "No legs in it at the moment."

Meanwhile, the boss wants striker Josh Kayode to prove his worth in Rotherham colours this season rather than go out on loan again.

The 23-year-old confirmed his comeback from a nine-month injury lay-off by scoring for the Millers as they drew 1-1 with Morecambe at home in the Carabao Cup on Tuesday night before going through to the second round in a penalty shoot-out.

"For the time being, without a shadow of a doubt," Taylor said when asked by the Advertiser if the attacker would be staying. “He's got something about him. He's got to find it and put it out there on a regular basis.

"I can see something I want to work with. He should be an exciting prospect but, for whatever reason, he hasn't been for a couple of seasons. He'll get his opportunity.”
