OPPOSING boss Vincent Kompany has taken a swipe at Rotherham United, claiming nobody wants to see tactics like the ones adopted by the Millers this week.

The Burnley boss spoke out after there were ten minutes of stoppage time at the end of the Championship clash between the two teams at Turf Moor on Wednesday night.

He accused Matt Taylor's men of time-wasting and said their approach wasn't in keeping with second-tier football in this country.

"I felt it should have been 15 minutes," the former Belgian international said.

"No-one pays for a ticket to go and watch the goalkeeper walk 40 yards out of his box to go and get the ball and then walk back to his position, drop it and wave with his arms.

"You are two minutes and 45 seconds gone by then. You finish your hot-dog and there hasn't been a kick off the ball."

Rotherham, down to ten men following the dismissal of Cohen Bramall, were leading 2-1 and resisting valiantly when stoppage time began but were hit by goals in the 91st and 100th minute to agonisingly lose 3-2.

There were several second-half instances of Millers players receiving treatment for injuries and the visitors not rushing to take restarts, to the anger of the home crowd.

Kompany called for officials to make sure the spectacle of the division is maintained.

"The Championship is such an amazing league," he said. "There is no second tier (in other countries) that is stronger.

"We just have to keep the tempo in games. Everybody has a big part (to play) in making sure the game keeps flowing.

"This league has got plenty of players with legs and intensity and it is what English football is about, not three minutes for a set-piece. We can go to the NFL for that."

ROTHERHAM United manager Matt Taylor had a different view of events at Turf Moor to his Burnley counterpart.

The boss feels that too many decisions go against the Millers in the Championship because they are arguably the smallest outfit in the division.

So much added time in the table-topping Clarets' favour on Wednesday was part of the second-tier bias against his team, he maintained.

"It always happens to Rotherham when we go to a big club," he said. "They (the officials) will put up the maximum amount of time and play that, like they did in the first half (five minutes).

"They waited for Burnley to have a chance in the first half and then the referee blew his whistle. That was a minute over time.

"We expect that and we have it week in, week out. That is the way it is in this league."
