BREAKING: Millers net Fisher

DARNELL Fisher has become Rotherham United’s eighth summer signing after penning a three-year-deal at the AESSEAL New York Stadium.

The 22-year-old full-back has joined from Scottish giants Celtic for an undisclosed fee.

Reading-born Fisher watched from the stands as his new team crashed out of the EFL Cup at the hands of League Two Morecambe last night.

Manager Alan Stubbs said: “He’s very athletic and he will certainly provide competition for places.

“He is what you would look at now as a modern day full-back and he's predominantly a right back but can play left back too.

"He is very quick, he will get up the pitch, he’s played at Celtic, which is a huge club, and we have given him an opportunity to come here and push Stephen Kelly."

Fisher spent last season on loan at St Johnstone, where he made 23 appearances. He had been a Celtic player since joining them from Farnborough in 2011, making 17 appearances.

He made his first team debut for the Scottish champions in 2013 against Stubbs’ former side Hibernian.

And there could be more new arrivals before this weekend’s Championship clash with recently relegated Aston Villa.

Stubbs added: “We are waiting to hear back on another one or two as well.”

Fisher follows the captures of Lewis Price, Kelvin Wilson, Anthony Forde, Jon Taylor, Jake Forster-Caskey, Will Vaulks and Scott Allan.
