BREAKING: Broadfoot commits future to Millers

ROTHERHAM United defender Kirk Broadfoot has signed a new two-year-deal with the club as expected.

The influential centre back was a key cog as Neil Warnock guided the Millers to Championship safety, securing their third successive season in the second tier.

The 31-year-old former Rangers and Blackpool defender's current contract was set to expire on July 1, but new boss Alan Stubbs has managed to tie down the former Scotland international on a two-year-deal.

Broadfoot said: “I’m obviously pleased to get the deal done and I’ve loved my time at Rotherham since I’ve been here.

“I’m delighted to get it over the line and it’s taken a bit of time to get it done but that was nothing to do with myself or the club it was more personal family reasons.”

The Millers are aiming to move up the Championship table this year after two successive 21st placed finishes and Broadfoot is excited by the prospect of playing under Stubbs.

He added:“I’m looking forward to playing under the new manager, especially with him being a centre half in his playing career at the top level and I’m always looking to learn.

“I spoke to a few boys that he’s managed at Hibs and they all speak highly of him so I’m looking forward to getting started.”

Broadfoot joined Rotherham in 2014 and has so far made 60 appearances for the club.
