ROTHERHAM United are making attempts to bring back loan duo Grant Hall and Tariqe Fosu to AESSEAL New York Stadium on permanent deals.

Centre-half Grant Hall, who spent all of this season with the Millers, and winger Fosu, an arrival in the January transfer window, are out of contract at parent clubs Middlesbrough and Brentford respectively.

Manager Matt Taylor confirmed that discussions are taking place in a bid to secure their signatures for another assault on the Championship after this term’s survival.

“Talks are ongoing,” he said. “They are players we know and trust in terms of where their games are at. We are working hard to get the right people through the door.”

The pair are experienced campaigners at second-tier level and the boss acknowledged that Rotherham will face competition from other clubs for their services.

Hall, aged 31, made only 21 Millers appearances because of a series of hamstring injuries and he didn’t play from February onwards, but he was a commanding figure at the heart of the defence when he was available for selection.

The former Queens Park Rangers man intimated on several occasions during the season that he would be open to a return to S60.

Fosu scored once in 19 outings. A skilful wide man, he shone in his first few matches on the flank before alternating between the left wing and midfield.

Rotherham were hit by an injury crisis during their run-in and the Londoner was happy to fill in wherever Taylor wanted him to.

“Playing in midfield was quite new to me,” he said. “The main thing was for the team to stay in the league and finish as high as possible.”

The Advertiser twice asked him if he would be open to a full Millers move but both times he said his sole focus was on the bid for safety and that he wasn’t considering his future.
