Andre Green, Ben Wiles, Grant Hall ... what chance do they have of playing for Rotherham United this weekend against Blackburn Rovers?

All three have to prove their fitness.

ROTERHAM United are sweating on the fitness of a trio of players as they gear up for Saturday's first home league match of the 2023/24 Champonship season against Blackburn Rovers.

Midfield man Ben Wiles, centre-half Grant Hall and striker Andre Green haven't been ruled out of the contest but may have to watch from the stand.

Wiles picked up a dead leg in Tuesday night's Carabao Cup win over Morecambe, Hall has been laid low by a tight hamstring and new signing Green has been nursing a groin niggle.

“Ben will be sore for a few days. He was playing on one leg towards the end of the game,” manager Matt Taylor said. “That could go into the weekend.

"Grant's got a chance for Saturday. He's got to tick some boxes on Thursday. Andre, like Grant, has got to a certain level of intensity and speed on Thursday. We'll make a decision on Friday.”

Centre-forward Tom Eaves is finally free of his calf complaint and is re-joining full training. “He will be available for the weekend,” Taylor said.

Playmaker Cafu will return to the starting 11 after missing the Shrimps clash through suspension.

With Rotherham short on bodies, Taylor was forced to give some of his senior players more game-time than he'd have liked on Tuesday.

“You don't want Ollie Rathbone to be playing 100 minutes in a cup game at this stage of the season but we've literally got no other midfielders,” he said. “It is frustrating me, I'll be honest.”
