A club record crowd of 504 watched the NCEL side put up a good fight before losing 2-1, suffering their first defeat of the season in the process.

The consolation for the Muglet Lane outfit is just over £5,000 in prizemoney for winning two previous ties, plus £1,000 from the BBC which screened the game live.

"The day was everything we wished it would be and more," said Main chairman Wilf Race.

"The lowest gate we expected was 200, the best we expected was just to beat our previous record of 311 for a competitive game, set against Worksop last season.

"To smash it we are delighted about and the income is much needed, as it is to all clubs at our level.

"We put a good show up on and off the pitch."

Maltby return to league action away to Athersley Recreation on Wednesday, the same night that near neighbours Parkgate play a delayed FA Cup first qualifying round tie at home to Leek Town (7.45pm).
