Evans salutes quality display

MANAGER Steve Evans says Rotherham United showed exactly what they are capable of in Saturday's big derby win over Chesterfield.

Despite the 1-0 scoreline, the Millers produced one of their most dominant 90 minutes of the season to outplay their old rivals in front of a near full house at the New York Stadium.

Johnny Mullins' header 12 minutes into the second half capped a slick display and underlined Evans' confidence that the team can come through to win automatic promotion.

"The supporters here have probably never watched a Rotherham team dominate a Chesterfield derby like that," he said. "As a manager, if I have every derby as one-sided as that then I'll be pleased. The attacking possession statistics must have been frightening and we produced a really good performance against a Chesterfield side I have the highest respect for.

"When we play like that we are hard to contain. The quality of our football in spells was exceptional and if we had scored a second goal I think we would have gone on to win by five or six."

Having bagged back-to-back wins, the Millers will now strive to shake off the inconsistency which has held them back.

Now up to sixth in League Two, a point behind third-placed Burton, they play one of their games in hand away to in-form Bristol Rovers tomorrow (7.45pm).
