Evans puts brakes on Joey Barton speculation
STEVE Evans says he would love to have Joey Barton at Rotherham United — if the club could afford him.
The controversial and talented 32-year-old midfielder is a free agent at the moment and has reportedly spoken to several clubs, including Rotherham.

The Millers chief also sent out a message for Barton to call him if he fancied a move to South Yorkshire, but also struck a realistic tone.
"A lot of clubs in the Championship would take him and one or two in the Premier League might as well. The chances of us landing Joey Barton are probably zero but he's someone I admire as a footballer."
Barton was released by QPR in the summer and has been linked with West Ham and Nottingham Forest.

"But have I spoken to Joey Barton? No."
While acknowledging he was looking to strengthen his midfield, the Millers chief also played down interest in another reported target, Glasgow Celtic's Callum McGregor.
"He's a super footballer but my understanding is that Celtic would only do business if it is a permanent deal," he added.
The Millers, meanwhile, will run fitness checks on Joe Mattock and Richie Smallwood before tomorrow's Capital One Cup date with Norwich City at the AESSEAL New York Stadium. Evans confirmed he will make changes.
