Evans looks for a reaction

MANAGER Steve Evans is asking supporters to put things in perspective as injury-hit Rotherham United look to get back to winning ways at the New York Stadium tomorrow.

While stunned by Saturday's 5-0 beating at Dagenham, he is grappling with injury problems that have seen Lionel Ainsworth, Dale Tonge, David Noble, goalkeeper Scott Shearer and two of their better performers, Kari Arnason and Craig Morgan, confined to the treatment room.

The latest defeat saw the Millers slip to ninth in League Two ahead of tomorrow's toughie against third-placed Cheltenham Town. Struggling Wycombe Wanderers also come to the New York Stadium on Tuesday (7.45pm).

But Evans, who had seen his side win four out of five up to the Dagenham debacle, says it is important not to over-react.

He said: "We were well beaten last week and there were no excuses but at the same time if we win tomorrow we could be joint fourth.

"Let's put things into perspective. We're still in the hunt for promotion amidst an injury crisis and they are not just soft tissue injuries either.

"As I have indicated before, if we are within four or five points of the automatic promotion frame going into the new year then I will be delighted because we will only get better as the players get to know each other more and we get our big players back."
