Evans is new Millers boss

ROTHERHAM United have appointed Steve Evans as their new manager.

Evans has penned a three-year deal after successful negotiations, with the club given permission to talk to the Scotsman by fellow League Two outfit Crawley Town.

Chairman Tony Stewart said: "The board and myself were extremely impressed with what Steve had to say which matched our vision and ambition for Rotherham United. We have taken our time, looked at a number of high-calibre applications but Steve stood out and we are delighted he has agreed to take the job."

Evans (49) led Crawley to the Conference title last season and has had them challenging for promotion again. He leaves them fourth in the table.

He also had previous success as a manager with Boston United, guiding them into the league for the first time in their history, winning the Conference title in 2002.

Caretaker manager Darren Patterson will take charge of this afternoon's fixture with Cheltenham Town at Don Valley Stadium.
