An early own goal from Chris Smith set the Millers on their way and they weathered a York revival before completing a 3-0 win with two goals in five minutes in the second half.

Kieran Agard earned and converted the first from the penalty spot and Alex Revell headed the third.

"It was as comfortable night as we could wish to have," said Evans. "I think the gulf in class was enormous and in the second half fitness told.

"We missed some chances as well but the quality of our passing and movement showed how much we've improved in the year since we last played York."

The Millers made five changes for the tie but two players who were earmarked to play, strikers Tom Eaves and Matt Tubbs, couldn't take part. Eaves has a bug while Tubbs picked up a knock in training.

Checks will be run on both before Saturday's League One game at home to Swindon Town.
