Evans backs his players

MANAGER Steve Evans says there is no need to panic over Rotherham United's start for the season and that his confidence in the players is undiminished.

They go into tomorrow's home clash with Oxford United off the early pace in League Two and frustrated by a goalless draw at Barnet last week.

The influx of new signings are taking time to gel but Evans, who also takes his team to face surprise packets Accrington Stanley on Tuesday, insists the team has the quality to come through and make the sort of challenge most pundits and supporters were expecting.

He told the Advertiser: "This is a top squad with good characters who are hungry for success.

"I'm not going to decry the performance levels because in the large they have been good. We just need to make sure they produce wins. It is still very early days and we will certainly not be panicking."

"This is a huge week of football for us. Oxford are another side who wish they had more points on the board. They've got some players of real talent and a good, experienced manager in Chris Wilder who will be coming here to try and nick a result.

"What we must do is get at them and get the three points and we'll need the supporters behind us."
