Dismay at Agard transfer

ROTHERHAM United manager Steve Evans says he is “totally surprised” by Kieran Agard's move to Bristol City and believes he was motivated by money rather than football.

Last season's top scorer (pictured) dropped down a division to join the Robins yesterday for a sizeable six-figure fee, signing a three-year deal at Ashton Gate.

He turned down a new contract offer designed to keep him at the New York Stadium beyond next summer and said no to Leeds United last week, failing to agree terms after the two clubs had agreed a fee.

Evans told the Advertiser: “No disrespect to Bristol City, who are a wonderful football club, but Kieran had an opportunity to play in the Championship with an institution like Leeds United. He's dropped down a division and I can only assume from that that money is a major priority. It can only be for financial reasons and not football."

Rumours linking Ben Pringle with Premier League Hull City were also played down. Evans, preparing his side for tomorrow's trip to Millwall, said there had been no contact from the Tigers.
