Dawson lands title shot

EXPERIENCED boxer Neil Dawson has landed a title shot\_just days after winning his comeback fight.

The 30-year-old from Thorpe Hesley will fight for the Central Area Cruiserweight title at Everton Park Leisure Centre in Liverpool on March 25 against the unbeaten Matty Askin.

The match-up, to be broadcast on SKY television, follows a second-round victory against Clipstone’s Mark Lewis at Barnsley Metrodome a fortnight ago.

The fight was Dawson’s first since hanging up his gloves five years ago on the back of an eight-wins-from eight record.

As reported in the Advertiser last week, family and financial pressures contributed to his decision to retire just as he was on the brink of a central area championship belt.
